Giant Easter Egg Hunt
31/3/11
Clarkston Town Centre to host a massive Easter Egg Hunt for charity
Following the successful introduction of a Business Improvement District (BID) to Clarkston the BID in conjunction with Eastwood Rotary are holding a Giant Easter Egg Hunt.
Schools from throughout the area have been busily designing eggs to be hidden in shop windows across Clarkston Town Centre. For two weeks, from the Saturday the 2nd of April to Sunday 16th of April, visitors to Clarkston will be encouraged to enter a competition to guess how many eggs are hidden amongst some of the 132 BID businesses.
Prizes can be won - with under 8 year olds able to win a £100 worth of toys supplied by Toy Parade and over 8’s can win Nintendo Wii donated by Waterfall Bathrooms (both BID businesses).
Entry forms will be distributed in the area and in school bags of participating schools.
To finish all the fun off an Easter Fun Day will be held on Saturday the 23rd of April at Clarkston Halls car park (from 10.00am to 2.00pm) featuring bouncy castles, face painting, fancy dress competitions, Pulse 98.4 and a best dressed egg competition. Timed to coincide with the regular farmer’s market the BID is hoping to round off a great two weeks in style.
Paul Knight, chair of the BID Management Committee said:
‘Following the successful introduction of the Clarkston Town Centre Christmas lights and the switch on, where over 700 people attended, we are continuing to develop ideas for Clarkston. The Easter Egg hunt is the next major event and with the second year of Art in the Windows 2011 in May and the introduction of new Town Centre signage we are delighted at the progress of the BID to date.’

The lights received great coverage in the press and plans are now under way for 2011 with a range of activities in the pipeline including the second year of the highly successful Art in the Windows, the introduction of a new Easter event, new Town Centre signage and more. A BID forum will be announced shortly to allow all the businesses in the BID area to hear more about the plans.

The switch on of the Clarkston Town Centre BID attracted some 700+ people. Given all of this is funded by the local businesses through the BID it demonstrates the level of commitment from the businesses to improving Clarkston Town Centre.
Paul Knight (the BID chair and owner of EAT deli) said ‘The Christmas lights are just the start of the new BID - with a five year plan to help improve Clarkston Town Centre and provide a better trading environment for the businesses in the area. We hope everyone enjoys the new lights and I look forward to telling you more about the BID in the near future.’

BID Update
1/2/10
We are delighted to announce that East Renfrewshire Council have agreed to contribute £20,000 to the first year of the Clarkston BID - should the ballot prove successful. On top of their commitment to fund the BID manager and the associated administration costs this will help us develop an even stronger BID.
Also, in advance of the ballot for the Clarkston BID, we are proposing to run an event in June to demonstrate how the BID can make a difference to the Clarkston businesses. We have sent an outline of the event to all the businesses in the Clarkston BID area and both the letter to the businesses and the outline of the event are attached.
